Brittany Higgins Won’t Testify in Linda Reynolds’ Defamation Trial

Brittany Higgins’ Absence in Court Highlights Health Concerns

In a recent development, Brittany Higgins will not be giving evidence in the defamation trial brought against her by former Liberal senator Linda Reynolds.

Higgins, who is now pregnant and residing in France, will not travel to Perth to testify. Her lawyer, Rachael Young, cited several reasons for this decision. Firstly, Higgins is not required to testify to defend herself. Secondly, Young believes that Higgins’ testimony is not necessary to prove the defense’s case.

Finally, Higgins’ medical condition, details of which will be kept confidential, was a significant factor in this decision.

Linda Reynolds is suing Higgins over social media posts related to allegations of rape by Bruce Lehrmann, which Lehrmann denies.

Reynolds claims these posts contained falsehoods that harmed her reputation. Outside the court, Reynolds’ lawyer expressed dissatisfaction, noting that the case would now hinge on whether Higgins could have provided evidence if her health permitted.

Additionally, evidence presented in court suggested that the controversy surrounding Higgins might have influenced Reynolds’ chances in the upcoming election, as it could have impacted her standing within the Liberal Party.

The court also heard testimony about Reynolds’ emotional distress and health issues, including acute anxiety and stress, which contributed to her inability to perform her duties effectively.
