Inquiry into Supervision Practices at Brisbane Daycare
The death of a one-year-old boy at a Brisbane family daycare has prompted an investigation into the facility’s supervision practices. Riley Ma, identified by the Courier Mail, was found unresponsive with a purple tint around his lips and his fist clenched tightly.
Despite efforts to save him, Riley died at the scene. Police were called to the daycare around 3:30 PM, but have not yet declared the death suspicious or set up a crime scene.

Investigators are examining how often staff checked on Riley before his death. Family daycares in Queensland are regulated to ensure no more than seven children are present at once and that staff are trained and premises are safe.
The Queensland Department of Education, responsible for overseeing childcare services, has expressed condolences but is awaiting further details from the ongoing police investigation. While the department is aware of the incident, it cannot comment further until police conclude their inquiry.
The tragedy has raised concerns about the adequacy of supervision and safety measures in family daycare settings.
