Two Arrested as Investigation into Melbourne Tragedy Continues
Detectives from the Missing Persons Squad have arrested two males in connection with the death of a 22-year-old Clyde North man, whose body was found in Melbourne’s Yarra River on October 1. An 18-year-old from Collingwood and a 16-year-old from Melton South were taken into custody and interviewed but later released pending further inquiries. A machete was seized from one of the properties.
The incident began when the victim left a licensed venue on Flinders Street around 1 a.m. on September 30. Following an altercation with a group of males, he was punched and chased, with one assailant wielding a machete. In an attempt to escape, the man jumped into the Yarra River, but tragically drowned after trying to climb onto a jetty.
