Transforming Appin into a Thriving Community
A massive housing development is on the horizon for Appin, a small town in Sydney’s southwest. Plans are underway for Australia’s largest standalone housing project, which will bring 9,000 new homes to the area.
This development is expected to transform Appin into a bustling community with homes for 40,000 people, along with supermarkets, schools, parks, and other essential infrastructure.
Walker Corporation, the developer behind the project, aims to create a self-sustaining neighborhood complete with retail stores, cafes, and community facilities.

The plan also includes nearly five million square meters of conservation land and a $1.9 billion business park that could provide 10,000 jobs to the local area.
Currently, Appin is home to about 3,200 people, but this development could increase the population by over 1,000 percent. The first stage of the project, which includes 600 homes, could begin as early as 2026, pending approval.
This ambitious project comes at a time when New South Wales is falling behind on housing targets. With significant investments in infrastructure, Walker Corporation hopes to address the housing shortfall while creating a vibrant community in the Macarthur region.
