Victoria Faces Possible Gas Shortage Within Three Years
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has warned that Victoria may experience a gas shortage in the next three years. Despite being one of the world’s leading natural gas exporters, local supplies are tightening.
The ACCC predicted a surplus of 26 to 35 petajoules by the end of March next year, but this could drop to as low as 12 petajoules. This decline is attributed to an increase in contracted exports. In response, Victoria’s Energy Minister is overseeing new gas storage projects following government approval for new drilling sites.
