Scammers Exploit AI Technology to Steal Money and Personal Information
A new scam targeting Australians is spreading online, falsely promising earnings of $70,000 in the first month through a so-called “Secret Investment Platform.” Scammers have created a deepfake AI video featuring a fabricated version of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese promoting this investment opportunity. The fake video claims that the platform is a government-endorsed initiative to improve Australians’ financial wellbeing.
In the video, the fabricated Prime Minister assures viewers of the platform’s reliability and guarantees success. Retirees are specifically targeted, with scammers falsely stating that over 1,000 Australians have already become wealthy, and no participant has failed. They invite people to invest a minimum of $400, claiming it guarantees daily profits of $2,000 that can be withdrawn without fees.
The scammers create urgency by stating that the platform already has 4,000 participants and will close within three days. Viewers are urged to fill out a registration form linked to the video. Once submitted, scammers use the information to steal money and sensitive personal details under the guise of setting up the investment.
