Police Investigate Hatchet-Wielding Home Invasion

A violent home invasion occurred in Matraville on Sunday, 13 October 2024, when two males entered a Jersey Street home. A 67-year-old woman was approached as she entered the house, and a 70-year-old man was assaulted inside with a hatchet, causing injuries to his head and hands. The assailants stole keys and fled in a blue Subaru XV. The injured man was treated and released from the hospital.

Following an investigation, police located the stolen vehicle in Hebersham and arrested a 16-year-old boy in Mt Druitt on 17 October. The boy was allegedly found in possession of the hatchet used in the attack. He was charged with several serious offenses, including aggravated break and enter, and was remanded in custody. Investigations are ongoing as police continue to gather evidence.
